AcTVism Munich is an independent and non-profit online news outlet that broadcasts regularly from Munich, Germany. Like the Council of Canadians, they are supported through individual donations, they do not accept any advertisements, governmental or corporate financing.

Zain Raza, the senior editor of acTVism Munich, interviewed Council of Canadians chairperson Maude Barlow on September 26 when she was in Munich promoting her book Blue Future: Protecting Water for People and the Planet Forever (now translated into German as Blaue Zukunft).

In the interview, Barlow says, “We have to build a movement to put water at the centre of our lives and all policy. We must see water as a human right and a public trust. It belongs to all of us, it belongs to the future, it belongs to the ecosystem. It must never be allowed to be privatized, sold, traded, hoarded, put on the open market for sale because if it is allowed to do that, even more than currently exists, we’re going to find more and more people will die for lack of water.”

Barlow also highlights, particularly for the program’s European audience, the threat posed by the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), notably its investor-state chapter. And she answers what we can do as individuals to further the cause of water justice and become water warriors.
