Mayor Alexander Tschäppät writes to Mayor Evanderson Xavier, “I am very pleased that the city of Cambuquira recognizes water as a human right, that it promotes publicly financed water and that it bans the sale of bottled water in public facilities.”
Tschäppät notes, “Last year, the city of Bern was designated the first Blue Community in Europe and we made a lot of good experiences with the Blue Community Project.”
He adds, “I am confident that other communities in Latin America and Europe will soon follow the lead of Cambuquira and Bern. Because, if we want to protect the water commons in the face of increasing pressure to privatize water services, it is necessary to build a worldwide net of Blue Communities.”
