Brady questions $100,000 feasibility study

Council of Canadians Peterborough chapter activist Roy Brady will be at the Peterborough city council meeting on Tuesday night to say that the city should be spending money on housing people not on a feasibility study for the Brock Mission shelter.

He is concerned that Peterborough’s 10-year Housing and Homelessness Plan, which could be adopted by city council on Tuesday, advises council to spend $100,000 on a study to examine a possible addition to the Brock Mission, look at how many beds could be added, and put a price to the construction costs. Brady says, “We have so many needs. This is not the time for a study.” This expenditure will be decided when the city begins to review next year’s budget starting on November 25.

An on-line poll on the Peterborough Examiner website shows that 96 per cent of respondents agree with Brady.

In terms of the Housing and Homelessness Plan, Brady is pleased to see a recommendation to expand rent supplement programs.
