The Council of Canadians Campbell River chapter, along with Timberline Earth Club and Occupy Campbell River, screened the film ‘One Water” at the North Island College Theatre on November 30.
Chapter activist Rich Hagensen tells us, “The film screening was fairly successful with about 50 people attending and a lively discussion followed the film covering local, national and international water issues.” Hagensen also notes, “We also got almost 20 Boycott Nestle Pledge sheets signed.”
The media release for the even noted, “Filmed in 14 countries, ‘One Water’ is a visually powerful movie highlighting a world where water is exquisitely abundant in some places and dangerously lacking in others. Taps flowing with fresh, clean water are contrasted with toxic, polluted waterways. ‘One Water’ celebrates the ways water has touched human lives around the globe and leaves audiences with a fundamental question: is water a human right or a commodity?”
And as noted on the film’s website, “This full-length version features internationally renowned personalities such as the Dalai Lama, Vandana Shiva, Robert Kennedy Jr., among others, and includes compelling visual sequences from 14 countries around the globe. This film has also been seen widely at film festivals, educational institutions and international meetings. Winner of multiple international awards. One Water adopts an innovative approach to reach a wide audience around the globe with visual stories about our changing relationship to water.”
To date One Water has evolved through four iterations: a 22-minute non-verbal short, a 28-minute concert version, a 52-minute television version, as well as a 67-minute feature version.
