Centre Wellington chapter distributes diversity & inclusion poster

The Council of Canadians Centre Wellington chapter has been distributing the above image from the Women’s March in Washington.

Chapter activist Diane Ballantyne tells us, “It’s now seen in front windows, local shops and schools throughout Wellington County.”

In a recent e-blast by the chapter to its contact list, the chapter noted, “Given the tragedy that transpired in Quebec, some of the women who attended the Women’s March on Washington are organizing. We would like to know if you would like a copy of this diversity and inclusion poster (which is going up all over the local high school and community) reply to this email or message Diane Ballantyne on Facebook. It is available for delivery or pick-up (message for address, small donation please) or grab this JPEG and circulate it electronically.”

Ballantyne participated in the Women’s March in Washington that drew more than 1 million people on January 21, the day after Donald Trump’s inauguration.

The ‘We all belong here. We will defend each other’ poster was created by Oakland, California-based visual artist Micah Bazant.

His website notes, “Since the election of Donald Trump, there has been a surge in bias-related violence and harassment. Southern Poverty Law Center has found that most of these incidents are happening in K-12 schools. This poster was created with several national organizations in response to these conditions.”

Bazant also created this Refugees Are Welcome Here poster.

He says, “I’m so glad [my posters] are useful in urgent, huge protests. As a Jewish person, I feel like this is all stuff we’ve seen before. All my very large extended family was killed because so few countries were accepting Jewish refugees. For me, resisting religious discrimination and racist criminalization of refugees is a moral and spiritual imperative. When we say ‘Never again,’ that means ‘Never again for anyone.’”

The Council of Canadians rejects Islamophobia, anti-Muslim bigotry and racism – and supports inclusion, equality and diversity.
