Council of Canadians participates in second Peace and Friendship Alliance meeting NS

The second Nova Scotia Peace and Friendship Alliance meeting happened Saturday 04June again in Sipekne’katik (Indian Brook). I went up with friends from the Ecology Action Centre and was pleased to again see strong representation from Nova Scotia chapters at the meeting; thanks to Marion Moore and Charlene Morton from the South Shore chapter as well as Andrea Currie with our Inverness chapter for participating in the meeting.

There are many issues discussed during the day including more information on the proposed tidal power turbine in the Minas Basin, updates on the Alton Gas fight, the fight against the quarry in Fall River and reflections on the Mi’kmaki Water Walk. Charlene and Marion also talked about the campaign around the offshore which targets the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board.

The next meeting of the Alliance is planned for July 09th in Sipekne’katik. The meeting will happen in the morning and then all are invited to their pow wow in the afternoon. For more information, please be in touch! agiles@canadians.org.
