Renowned Uruguayan writer Eduardo Galeano will be at the World Conference of the People on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth in Bolivia. Galeano is perhaps best known as the author of Las venas abiertas de América Latina (Open Veins of Latin America).
Galeano will introduce the working group on the climate debt stream at the conference.
In October 2004, Council of Canadians chairperson Maude Barlow wrote, “When I was in Montevideo, I met one of my heroes – the great Latin American poet and writer, Eduardo Galeano, who was a fierce supporter of the referendum (in Uruguay to amend their constitution to recognize the human right to water) and helped the local committee greatly. We exchanged books and hugs.”

Galeano’s attendance at the conference is noted at both http://www.greenleft.org.au/2010/833/42848 and http://pwccc.wordpress.com/2010/03/29/media-advisory-50-governments-and-10000-people-expected-at-historic-climate-conference/.
