The Council of Canadians is organizing a series of town hall meetings on public health care in conjunction with our friends and allies at the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE). Together we are organizing these events in ridings held by Conservative MPs to draw attention to the expiry of the federal Health Accord and to call on the federal government to negotiate a new accord with the provinces to protect and expand public health care.

To date, there have been successful town hall meetings in Winnipeg, Moncton and Bridgewater. Council of Canadians health care campaigner Adrienne Silnicki has written, “We’re part way through our campaign to protect, strengthen and expand public health care in Canada and we’re thrilled with how the campaign is progressing.”

In terms of upcoming town hall meetings, we have:

  • Regina – June 23

  • North Bay – June 24

  • Oshawa – September 4

  • Sault St. Marie – September 18

  • Scarborough – date to be determined
