Inverness County chapter hosts Energy East Resistance Bike Ride

Energy East picnic

Over the past few weeks four cyclists who share a passion for pipeline resistance have been gearing up for an Energy East Resistance Bike Ride. They departed Sydney, NS on May 28th and will be cycling all the way to Ottawa along the pipeline route. They will be talking to communities and individuals along the way, collecting and sharing stories of resistance and resilience.

The group recently arrived in Inverness to a picnic arranged by our chapter (see photo) as well as being housed overnight by Anne Levesque. It was wonderful to see our chapter responding to the call-out and exceeding the group’s expectations of simply giving them a lawn to sleep on.

I have been in touch with one of the trip co-ordinators, Alex Guest, who will be arriving with his team here in Halifax on June 12th. While they are here I have planned a few events, the tentative schedule is included below. I will be riding out of Halifax with the team for two days, stopping in Windsor and Wolfville, and will be writing about my trip from Halifax to the Bay of Fundy with the team and a fellow renewable energy advocate, Stephen Thomas.

Halifax Event Schedule June 12-16

  • Friday: Noon bike maintenance workshop @ MEC, community potluck supper in Common Roots Urban Farm (corner of Bell & Robie)
