The Council of Canadians and allies are preparing to raise key issues outside the upcoming federal Liberal convention.
The Hill Times reports, “The Liberal convention in Halifax April 19 to 21 is the last chance for party members to talk policy ahead of the 2019 election.”
The article adds, “Throughout the day Friday, the party will hold policy workshops to debate the 30 resolutions on the floor, with voting on Saturday during the policy plenary expected to whittle down those policies to 20 priorities. …The controversial Kinder Morgan pipeline is likely to come up during an Alberta-supported resolution to implement a strategy for oil and gas independence that presents interprovincial pipeline construction as ‘an opportunity for nation-building and Canadian infrastructure development’.”
Halifax-based The Coast reports, “Trudeau will arrive just days after pledging his support for both the American-led airstrikes in Syria and the contentious Trans Mountain pipeline. …Closer to home, environmental advocates in Nova Scotia have already voiced concern about BP’s offshore drilling.”
That article also notes, “Of course, any protests about those issues will only happen outside the Convention Centre. Inside, the Liberals will be voting on new policy resolutions and preparing the Party for the next federal election. There will also be a walking tour of the former Africville lands.”
