Libya’s Al-Triki reported to be next UN president

The KUNA news service reports that, “The candidature of Ali Abdessalamm Al-Triki of Libya to become the UN General Assembly President for its 64th session has already been endorsed by the African Group and he will be officially elected on June 10, a diplomatic source told KUNA on Monday.”

The article notes, “He will replace Father Miguel D’Escoto Brockmann of Nicaragua whose Presidency of the Assembly’s current 63rd session ends in mid September.”

Maude Barlow’s term as senior advisor on water to the UN president is set to end on September 16, but could be extended for another year by Mr. Al-Triki.
