Mark the 5 year anniversary of Idle No More on Dec. 21st in Toronto!

Five years ago we were honoured to support the beginnings of Idle No More with round dances, flash mobs, and marches across the country (see our photos from actions across the country here). Join us in Toronto on Thursday as we mark the five-year anniversary of this amazing social movement.

For all of 2017 the Council of Canadians has been showing up in solidarity with Indigenous communities fighting to protect their land and in defense of their rights, from Grassy Narrows to Muskrat Falls, from the fight against Kinder Morgan to Alton Gas, and so much more! This Thursday will be one more important way that we can all show up to hold the government accountable to its promises to build a renewed, nation-to-nation relationship with Indigenous peoples.

Join the crowds gathering at noon outside the INAC offices at 25 St. Clair E. where a 24-hour vigil has been maintained for five months to honour victims of the Indigenous youth suicide crisis. At 1pm we will walk together in a prayer march with signs and drums to Yonge-Dundas square where at 2pm there will be a large round dance. This round dance will mark the 5 year anniversary of Idle No More’s march and rally on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, and of the rallies and actions that took place across Turtle Island as part of that movement.
