The front-page of the Traverse City Record-Eagle carries the headline, ‘Local environmental conference shines spotlight on Great Lakes’.
An article in the newspaper notes, “Threats against the Great Lakes are real, Jim Olson said, and they’re multiplying. Olson, a noted environmental attorney who practices in Traverse City, hopes a conference slated for this weekend will help galvanize support for the lakes. The conference, dubbed ‘Saving the Great Lakes Forever’, begins Friday at the State Theatre.” The newspaper had reported late last week, “Tickets are available for an upcoming water conference. The ‘Saving the Great Lakes Forever’ conference is scheduled for May 6-7. It kicks off May 6 at 6:50 p.m. at the State Theatre with a presentation by Maude Barlow, a water advocate and former senior adviser to the president of the UN General Assembly.”
The Grand Traverse Insider is also reporting on the upcoming conference. The weekly newspaper has a circulation of more than 43,000 readers.
Along with Barlow and Olson, Food and Water Watch executive director Wenonah Hauter will be speaking at the conference. Council of Canadians water campaigner Emma Lui will also attend.
