The CBC reports that, “Police officers from Prince Edward Island will make up part of the 6,000-strong police force that will provide security for the G8/G20 summits in Ontario. Some Islanders will also be there to protest from the other side of the security barriers.”
Leo Broderick, a Charlottetown activist who is vice-chair of the Council of Canadians, said, “We’re hoping to get at least 20,000 people out. These protests are really important. We need to send a message to world leaders that the G8 and G20 are really undemocratic.”
The CBC report concludes, “Broderick said the summits should be scrapped in favour of international talks at the United Nations.”
