Europe Online reports, “A petition to prevent the privatization of water supplies has become the first that European Union citizens can sign under efforts to give them more say in the bloc‘s affairs, the European Commission announced Tuesday. Advocacy group Right2Water, which wants the EU to safeguard access to water and sanitation as a human right, is the first organization to be able to collect signatures under the European Citizens‘Initiative (ECI), which was introduced in April. …Right2Water now needs to gather 1 million signatures from at least seven of the 27 EU member states, in order to call on the European Commission to draft legislation guaranteeing access to water and sanitation.” The campaign’s website is at http://www.right2water.eu, you can also ‘Like’ their Facebook page if you search Right2Water.
