An Ontario Federation of Labour media release issued late today states, “In view of the ongoing concerns expressed by the residents of Trinity Bellwoods, the Ontario Federation of Labour, the Canadian Labour Congress and our partners in the June 26 rally have agreed to move the event to Queen’s Park.”
“The G20 public rally will take place at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 26 at Queen’s Park, Toronto.”
OFL president Sid Ryan says, “We have been listening carefully to the mounting concerns and on the basis of what we have heard, we are revising our plans. Our quarrel should not be with each other, but with the leaders of the wealthiest and most powerful nations who are responsible for the world’s worsening economic and social conditions.”
This announcement comes the day after CBC reported that, “Trinity Bellwoods Park, which is surrounded by residences, will not be used as the designated speech area in Toronto for protesters during the G20 Summit, police said Thursday. Instead, police will establish a protest zone outside of Queen’s Park.”
