South Shore Now reports, “The South Shore’s Council of Canadians chapter plans to rally outside MP Gerald Keddy’s Bridgewater office this Friday.”
“The Aberdeen Road event supports ‘First Nations in their efforts to have the federal government respect their treaty rights and begin a new and constructive relationship,’ the chapter said in a statement advising news media of the rally. The rally runs between 12 noon and 1 p.m.”
“‘As First Nations delegations meet with Prime Minister [Stephen] Harper, Canadians across the country are calling on the federal government to respect aboriginal treaty rights and enter into a meaningful dialogue to solve the longstanding and complex issues facing native communities,’ the chapter said.”
“‘Both native and non-native groups will also be protesting the government’s failure to consult with First Nations in regard to environmental legislation contained in Bill C-45, legislation which particularly threatens our lakes and rivers and will affect all Canadians.”
