NEWS: U of T to be closed for G20 summit

The Council of Canadians has been busy organizing for its ‘Shout Out’ public forum on the G20 – with speakers including Maude Barlow, Pablo Solon, Naomi Klein, Vandana Shiva, Amy Goodman and others – scheduled for Friday June 25 at the University of Toronto’s Convocation Hall.

CTV reports this hour that, “The (University of Toronto) campus will be closed from Thursday, June 24 to Sunday, June 27.”

“The university is the latest institution to be affected by the high-level meetings, which are set for June 26 and 27.”

“Only essential staff will be allowed on campus. …It is also believed that students who live in university residences will have to be moved during the weekend summit. They will be housed at some of the university’s other residences, located further away from the protest grounds.”

“University staff said that the decision to shut down for the summit occurred after Queen’s Park was designated as the official protest zone (on May 13 after being moved from Trinity Bellwoods Park).”
