The Pembina Institute has learned that US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton will be visiting Ottawa on December 13.
She will be here for preparatory meetings in advance of the next North American Leaders summit, which is to be held in Bellevue, Washington in October.
(The 2012 summit is likely to take place in Canada.)
Although the Security and Prosperity Partnership has been defeated, the Council of Canadians continues to track Canada-US relations and ongoing deep integration initiatives.
Our primary concerns in this respect are Arctic oil and gas exploration, the addition of a procurement chapter to NAFTA, the prospect of integrated climate change policy, tar sands policy and the expansion of pipelines into the US, bulk water exports, policies concerning the Great Lakes, border policies and security integration.
