Occupying in Toronto

More than 2000 people have already taken part in Occupy Bay Street today despite the lousy weather and dozens of tents are now set up in St. James Park. World-wide, there are more than 1200 “Occupations” happening today as people unite against corporate greed and influence over government, the increasing gap between the rich and poor and the austerity measures that will only serve to exacerbate these problems. What started as a small protest on Wall Street in New York City a few weeks ago is now a global movement sweeping across the planet-and not a moment too soon! Using the European debt “crisis” as cover, neo-conservatives are pushing for more deregulation and the forced sale and privatization of public services. But people are standing up and saying “We won’t pay for your crisis” which is music to the ears of Council of Canadians members. There will surely be many ups and downs as this battle for social justice plays out and we will do all we can to help turn the tide and bring the power back to the people. Will you help?
