The Council of Canadians Prince Albert chapter has joined a collective to stop illegal garbage dumping in and around their community.

ThKeep Prince Albert and Area Beautiful signe Prince Albert Herald reports, “Keep Prince Albert and Area Beautiful is the freshly-convened collective. Along with provincial, municipal and rural agencies, the group is made up of organizations as disparate as the local chamber of commerce and the Prince Albert Council of Canadians. The committee’s focus is primarily tackling illegal dumping outside Prince Albert and littering inside the city. …The group’s goals range from physically cleaning up waste to determining what leads people to dump their old appliances and other waste in the open. The group also has an educational focus.”

Sarah Keith, manager of landfills with the provincial Ministry of Environment, says making sure people understand the harmful aspects of their waste on soil, water and wildlife is key.

The news article adds, “One of the first public appearances for the group will be at Earth Day/Seedy Saturday events on April 25 at the public library. Environment Ministry officials will give a presentation and group members will lead kids crafts before doing a cleanup of the downtown area.”
