The Telegraph-Journal reports that, “The New Brunswick government has put the brakes on any further consideration of private diagnostic clinics in New Brunswick as it deals with the economic slowdown.”
“Legislation that was supposed to be introduced this spring clarifying the rules for further participation by the private sector in the delivery of health care did not materialize. Graham said he has no idea where that proposed legislation is now, or whether it will ever see the light of day.”
“Premier Shawn Graham said Monday that a number of issues had to be put on the back burner as the recession tightened its grip on the province and forced the Liberal government to take action to stimulate the economy.”
The premier says, “We are open to a number of options in the health-care field that will better serve New Brunswickers. But when the full force of the recession struck, our top priority was the economy and the stimulus package that we announced. That meant that some of the transformational changes we were undertaking in different departments had to be put on hold.”
