Quinte chapter decorates tree and donates ‘Boiling Point’ for Festival of Trees fundraiser

Chapter activists Sharon Stefan and Lynne Rochon.

The Council of Canadians Quinte chapter participated in the recent “Festival of Trees” event in Picton.

A County Live blog notes, “About 200 beautifully decorated trees, related seasonal decorations, gift baskets and treasures are on display for the three-day silent auction. The weekend also features a Christmas Boutique, baked goods, jams, jellies, pickles and preserves. The festival, hosted by the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, is supported by County businesses, organizations, groups and individuals. Volunteer entertainers perform throughout the weekend.”

Chapter activist Lynne Rochon further explains, “Organizations and individuals donate trees which are purchased by the public and the monies raised go to our Hospital. We decided to include one this year from CoC Quinte along with a signed book by Maude Barlow, some info on CoC and a card telling people about our group and where to contact us.”

Auxiliary president Liz Jones says, “We have dozens of volunteers that make this festival a possibility. Some work many hours preserving and baking, arranging volunteers, setting up, and no matter the time commitment, the efforts come together and allow us to dedicate 100 per cent of the earnings to health initiatives in our local hospital and community.”

All proceeds from the festival went to support the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital and the purchase of new scopes for its endoscopy department.
