Briarpatch article on The Mighty Fight for Muskrat Falls.
The Council of Canadians Regina chapter is encouraging other chapters to order copies of the July issue of Briarpatch.
Chapter activist Jim Elliott says, “Talked to the editor of Briarpatch, a great magazine which publishes a lot of good progressive articles and supports a lot of programs in the country. They are doing a special July issue themed around subverting the Canada 150 celebrations. They have a short term offer for Chapters to purchase copies to either resell or give away to members or others. Deadline is June 12th to put in orders. We are probably going to purchase 10 copies to give away to members who aren’t subscribers already.”
Editor David Gray-Donald notes, “Here is a bit of what to expect in the issue: The Anishnaabe story of Windigo is revisited by Danielle Boisonneau; through access-to-information requests, the Government of Canada’s internal position on treaty relationships with First Nations is laid bare; Secwpemc Nation activist Kanahus Manuel discusses Indigenous land defence with east coast journalist Justin Brake (who faces charges for covering protests at Muskrat Falls); a ten year old Indigenous boy reviews two children’s books about residential schools; a three-page spread shows a history of insurrections in Canada; and lots more (including an ad for Council of Canadians!).”
Council of Canadians chapters and members wanting to order copies (at $4 per copy, down from the newstand price of $6 per issue) need to do so by June 12 by emailing publisher@briarpatchmagazine.com or calling 1-866-431-5777.
Briarpatch is published bimonthly by Briarpatch Incorporated, an independent non-profit organization overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors.
