I am so excited to announce that the Mexican Senate has voted to add the right to water to the Constitution just moments ago!
This initiative also adds the right to a healthy environment!
The initiative now needs to be voted in the majority of the state legislations, which might still take a few months, but it is most likely to be passed and finally published officially!
There will be plenty of work for us now to make sure the Water Law is amended to reflect this change and make it a reality, but today we need to celebrate!
This is a major WIN for many Mexican organizations, the Coalición de Organizaciones Mexicanas por el Derecho al Agua among them. However, it is also thanks to the support of the international water movement that we have accomplished this major achievement.
