You know as well as we do that Canada’s transition away from fossil fuels needs to be a process that benefits workers, communities, and the climate. While the federal “Interim Sustainable Jobs Plan” released in February is a step in the right direction, there are also notable absences and loopholes that will solely benefit fossil fuel companies and the ultra wealthy.
In advance of sustainable jobs legislation being tabled, now is the time to talk about what we need to see enshrined in legislation to ensure a truly just transition for Indigenous communities and for workers and their communities.
On May 24th, 2023, the Council of Canadians, Iron & Earth, Blue Green Canada, 350 Canada, and others joined together for “Communities, Not Corporations: Transition for People and the Planet.” Watch the recording:
Hosted by Anjali Appadurai, renowned activists and experts shared insights on the federal Sustainable Jobs Plan and explored how to win strong legislation that invests in Indigenous sovereignty, workers, and communities rather than false, market-based solutions that line the pockets of corporations and the ultra-wealthy.
