He wants to take our most precious resource

Trump wants Canada’s water—will you help stop him?

Donald Trump recently made headlines with his alarming comments about “turning a giant faucet” to send water from Canada to California.

While no such valve exists, and there is no clear path for water to flow from Canada to California, his remarks are a stark reminder of the ongoing threats to our shared resources—and why we must remain vigilant.

For nearly 40 years, the Council of Canadians has been at the forefront of protecting Canada’s water, and all things we hold in common, from reckless resource grabs. From the MAI to NAFTA to CUSMA, we have fought to protect Canada’s independence and ability to democratically manage our shared resources like water, energy, and agricultural products.

Now, we need your help to do it again.

Trump’s first presidency rolled back water and environmental protections and opened the door to corporate resource exploitation. When he takes office for a second term, the risks to our shared waterways will grow—especially with CUSMA set to be renegotiated in 2026.

The Council of Canadians is committed to meeting any threats to our shared waters in the same way we have for decades. With your support, our network of chapters, allies, researchers, and activists will continue protecting water from corporate exploitation and pollution.

Will you stand with us to protect Canada’s water? Together, we can safeguard the water that sustains us all—for generations to come.
