The Overpass Light Brigade helped to promote the message that ‘Water Is Life’ in opposition to the mine last night.

The Bad River Tribe in Wisconsin is opposed to plans by the mining company Gogebic Taconite to open a huge iron ore mine in the Bad River watershed area. Tribal Chief Mike Wiggins is concerned that toxins used or created in the mining process, such as sulfuric acid and arsenic, will poison the water where tribal members fish, harvest wild rice and hunt waterfowl. Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker has promoted mining in the state. Next week, Wisconsin Senator Tom Tiffany is introducing new legislation that will streamline the permitting process for iron ore mining.
