Jim Olson
Council of Canadians chairperson Maude Barlow and Michigan-based Flow for Water chair Jim Olson will be presenting to the International Joint Commission in Washington, DC on Tuesday December 13.
As noted by Flow for Water, “Earlier this fall we updated you regarding Flow for Water and Council of Canadians’ request to the International Joint Commission (IJC) in conjunction with the Biennial Meeting and ten year review of the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement (GLWQA). Flow for Water requested the opportunity to present a proposal to the IJC to evaluate and adopt a commons and public trust approach as an added Guiding Principle for water use and quantity and quality issues in the twenty-first century. At a Town Hall Session during the IJC’s Biennial Meeting in Detroit, we emphasized to the Commission the potential application of public trust principles for the boundary waters. On Oct. 15 we received our acceptance and invitation by the IJC for FLOW and Council of Canadians to make a presentation on Dec. 13 in Washington, DC.”
