UPDATE: Calling on Bentley, Bradley and Chiarelli to defend the Great Lakes

Bentley, Bradley, Chiarelli

The Toronto Star reports that the new Ontario provincial government cabinet will be sworn in this afternoon. Chris Bentley (MPP, London West) will become the energy minister, Jim Bradley (MPP, St. Catharines) the environment minister, and Bob Chiarelli (MPP, Ottawa West-Nepean) the transportation minister.

As of today, 103,239 people have signed an ongoing petition calling on these three ministers to stop Bruce Power’s plan to transport radioactive waste on the Great Lakes.

On September 30, during the provincial election, Council of Canadians Ontario-Quebec regional organizer Mark Calzavara delivered the petition – then with more than 101,000 names – to Queen’s Park demanding that Ontario premier Dalton McGuinty do the right thing and put a stop to the shipments on the Great Lakes.

We will now be intensifying our efforts to convince Bentley, Bradley and Chiarelli to take the appropriate actions to stop this threat.

The on-line petition is at http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/214/367/304/.
