UPDATE: Chapter activist is the Council’s new deputy political director

I am pleased to announce that Whitehorse chapter activist Tory Russell began her first day today as the Deputy Director of the Political Team at the Council of Canadians.

Tory and I will work together to manage the organization’s Political Team, which has a staff of 21 people (5 campaigners, 4 regional organizers, 2 project organizers, 4 communications staff, 4 organizing assistants, and 2 administrative assistants) and a budget of just over $2 million.

For the past five years, Tory has been the assistant to the chief of staff at the NDP Caucus office in Whitehorse, acting as a liaison between MLAs and the public, tracking key issues, researching legislation, and communicating with the public.

Additionally, Tory speaks French and has conversational Spanish. She has lived in both Montreal and Hull, Quebec. She received her BA from Concordia University in Montreal.

The Council has an ambitious plan for political action this coming year – in the areas of water, energy/climate, trade, and health care – and I look forward to working with Tory to implement this plan.

Please join me in welcoming Tory.
