Join the Council of Canadians in Nanaimo this October 26-27 for our annual meeting featuring Bill McKibben, Grand Chief Stewart Phillip, Chief Douglas White, Linda McQuaig, and, of course, Maude Barlow. The Nanaimo Daily News reports, “Council of Canadians members are gathering in Nanaimo from Oct. 26 to 27 for a conference called ‘Making Waves: Sinking the Harper Agenda’. Event planners say that a broad civil society movement is needed to counter the current government, which they feel caters to the ‘one per cent’. The conference will bring together environmental, health, youth, Indigenous and labour groups to fight back against Harper’s ‘austerity’ agenda and mining and pipeline projects that ‘threaten’ the environment. The conference will feature highprofile keynote speakers, a day of interactive workshops and plenary panel discussions.” More about the conference at http://canadians.org/conference.
