The Harper government is looking at UK prime minister David Cameron’s “Big Society” austerity measures as a model for Canada.
On Saturday October 27 at 9 am, War on Want UK executive director John Hilary will be speaking at the “Uniting Against Austerity: Strengthening Solidarity in the Movement for Economic Justice” at our “Making Waves” conference in Nanaimo, British Columbia.
War on Want has said of the “Big Society” model, “The debate about cuts has enabled the government to create a diversion from what is an ideological attack on the state and public services. The government want to privatise large sectors of public services including healthcare and education and the cuts give them the smokescreen to do it.
