This morning, the National Farmers Union rallied political support – on the front steps of Centre Block – for the Canadian Wheat Board.
Speakers included NDP MP Pat Martin and Liberal MP Wayne Easter.
The NFU described this morning’s protest as, “A farmer demonstration in support of the Canadian Wheat Board, in support of agriculture policies that put farm families first, and in support of Canadian agriculture and food systems controlled by Canadians, for the benefit of Canadians.”
The Council of Canadians is supporting the efforts of the National Farmers Union, Friends of the Canadian Wheat Board, and many others to defend the Canadian Wheat Board against the Harper government’s plan to end the vital role it has played for farmers.
I met with NFU president Terry Boehm just after this morning’s demonstration and offered the Council’s continued support in the campaign to defend the Canadian Wheat Board.
