UPDATE: OTPP Chilean water company profiles

The Ontario Teachers Pension Plan has made significant investments in private water utilities in Chile. Those companies include:

Empresa de Servicios Sanitarios del Bio-Bio SA (ESSBIO)
– second largest Chilean water utility
– 50.83% OTPP ownership
– purchased for $356.5 million in 2007
– operates in O’Higgins (region VI) and Bio Bio (VIII)
– 610,000 customers
– Chilean state-owned Production Development Corporation (CORFO) a “major shareholder”

Esval SA
– third largest Chilean water utility
– 69.4% OTPP ownership
– purchased for $570 million in 2007
– operates in Valparaiso (V), and through Aguas del Valle SA and Servicios Sanitarios Las Vegas Limitada in Coquimbo (IV)
– 665,000 customers combined
– 30% owned by CORFO

Aguas Nuevo Sur Maule (ANSM)
– 100% OTPP ownership
– purchased for undisclosed amount in 2007
– operates in Maule (VII)
– 195,000 customers
