UPDATE: ‘Water Makes Money’ in court today

A film about how corporations see water as profit – which features comments by Blue Planet Project founder Maude Barlow – is the subject of a libel suit by Veolia in a Paris courthouse today. A media release (in French) notes, “The trial will begin with the screening of the film. Veolia says defamed by the film and filed a complaint on 28 September 2010. (To date) the film was able to reach a wide audience and was screened publicly about 1000 times (in about 150 countries).”

In Canada, the Winnipeg chapter of the Council of Canadians screened the film on March 22, 2011, during its campaign against Veolia’s ‘partnership’ with the city’s wastewater utility. On April 10, 2012, the Council of Canadians, the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), and the Richmond Food Security Society screened the film in Richmond, British Columbia.
