VIDEO: Barlow on public health care

Council of Canadians chairperson Maude Barlow, health care campaigner Adrienne Silnicki, and BC-Yukon organizing assistant Ava Waxman are in Victoria for a Council of the Federation (the provincial and territorial first ministers) meeting focused on the 2014 Canada Health Accord negotiations.

This morning, Barlow participated in a roundtable on the Canada Health Accord organized by NDP health care critic Libby Davies, along with UBC professor Dr. Kimberlyn McGrail and Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives research associate Marcy Cohen.

As noted on rabble.ca, “January 15, 2012, on the eve of the Premiers conference on health care (the Council of the Federation), the NDP hosted a roundtable dialogue on the future of medicare with key civil society and NGO advocates. Libby Davies, MP for Vancouver East and NDP Health Critic and Deputy Leader, and Council of Canadians Chairperson, Maude Barlow, took a few minutes to speak about the Premiers’ conference and the future of medicare for rabble.ca.”

Tomorrow morning at 9 am PT, Barlow will be speaking at a media conference at the Hotel Grand Pacific on the need for a health accord that will protect, strengthen and extend Medicare. Vince Terstappen of Check Your Head, Val Avery of NUPGE, and Dr. Vanessa Brcic of Canadian Doctors for Medicare will also be speaking at the media conference. And tomorrow evening at 6:30 pm PT, Barlow will be speaking at a public forum at the Da Vinci Centre. The other speakers will be Diana Gibson of the Parkland Institute and Mike Luff of NUPGE. This public forum will be video-taped and posted to our website.
