On Friday, January 31, I joined a number of civil society leaders in calling on Canadians to vigorously defend our sovereignty in the face of ongoing threats from the Trump administration. At a media conference on Parliament Hill, we launched the non-partisan Pledge for Canada / Engagement pour le Canada – endorsed by a diverse group of former elected officials, labour and Indigenous leaders, lawyers and scholars, national climate and social justice advocates, senior public servants, and artists. Within hours of going public, the pledge garnered tens of thousands of signatures.
Joining me at the launch were Charlie Angus, MP; Anne Lagacé Dowson, communicator; Jean Teillet, writer and Indigenous rights lawyer; and Mark Tewksbury, athlete and LGBTQ+ advocate. You can watch the recording on CPAC.

To date, we’ve reached over 50,000 signatures – but we need yours too. Please sign the Pledge for Canada, and circulate it among your networks and friends.
To keep up this vital work, the Council urgently needs your support to bring this message to Canadians of all backgrounds in every region. Please give now!
In solidarity.
