While BC burns, people take action to stop KM buyout

While over 550 wildfires burn throughout British Columbia during a state of emergency, a week of action is unfurling to stop the Kinder Morgan buyout. The wildfires ravaging BC are yet another reminder that new fossil fuel infrastructure is a step in the wrong direction. We urgently need to stop expanding the fossil fuel industry and start taking the job of planning a transition off of fossil fuel production and consumption seriously. We need a plan that is responsible to impacted communities and workers. We can do this, climate solutions exist. We need the political will.

Here is an update on actions being organized this week in BC provided by Protect the Inlet. Not in BC? You can sign our petition against the Kinder Morgan buyout and join, plan a September 8th Rise for the Climate action and donate to the Tiny House Warriors.

Protect the Inlet, and Kwekwecnewtxw, the Watch House on Burnaby Mountain, and various other groups are partnering to send Justin Trudeau, Kinder Morgan, or anyone else who wants to build this pipeline and oil tanker project that this pipeline will not be built.

This week, another group of protectors were sentenced to 7 days jail time. Those who have served or are serving jail time include an Anglican reverend, a former Mennonite pastor, the former President of the BC Teachers’ Federation, a 70-year old grandmother and foster parent, and a recipient of the Order of Canada.
