Ottawa – News reports are suggesting that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau did not turn up for a crucial leaders meeting, on the margins of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Vietnam, to discuss the Trans-Pacific Partnership, leaving the talks in limbo.
The Council of Canadians encourages the Trudeau government to now formally withdraw from the TPP-11 talks.
"The TPP has been clearly rejected by the Canadian public, and yet the Trudeau government has persisted in pursuing these negotiations over the past year," says Maude Barlow, Honorary Chairperson of the Council of Canadians. "We are pleased the Prime Minister did not attend this leaders' meeting, now we ask that he formally withdraw from the talks."
