Council of Canadians available for comment on Energy East pipeline filing at NEB

The Council of Canadians is available to comment on TransCanada’s National Energy Board filing of its preliminary project description of the Energy East pipeline.

“This pipeline is our risk and their reward,” says Andrea Harden-Donahue, Energy and Climate Justice Campaigner with the Council of Canadians. “TransCanada has a track record of misinformation, shoddy infrastructure and 12 spills in one year on their latest pipeline project. We will not let them risk our water. We will support communities’ right to refuse and we will keep Canada within our carbon budget to avoid runaway climate change.”

“This is first and foremost an export pipeline,” says Maude Barlow, National Chairperson of the Council of Canadians. “This pipeline would put Eastern Canadians’ water at risk and represents a further step towards extreme energy and away from the sustainable energy future we need.”

The Council of Canadians has vowed to oppose the Energy East project and has followed through on the promise, collecting thousands of petition signatures, hosting public town halls and strategy sessions, and promoting participation in community consultations. Maude Barlow will be speaking in six communities along the route from April 7-16.
