This morning at the Council of the Federation meeting in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada’s premiers made an announcement that includes a focus on health care. The Premiers state they want to “modernize” federal finance arrangements, “protect and sustain health care”, stop the offloading and downloading of federal responsibilities, and are asking the finance ministers to create a priority list of public services.
The Council of Canadians is available for comment about the organization’s concern that there is no mention of the 2014 health accord in the Premiers’ statement.
“The Premiers say they want “reasonable” access to services across the country. But it’s completely unreasonable that they didn’t demand a 2014 health accord with national standards and federal accountability,” says the Council of Canadians’ Health Care Campaigner Adrienne Silnicki.
