Council of Canadians brings fracking to Parliament Hill

PHOTO OP: The Council of Canadians will pose as company “Frack Corp” and build a 14-foot fracking rig and stage a mock fracking wastewater spill on Parliament Hill. The Council of Canadians will then deliver a signed petition to Members of Parliament from over 10,000 people calling for a ban on fracking.

WHAT: A creative action by the Council of Canadians to draw attention to the massive opposition to fracking projects in Canadian and Indigenous communities. The Council of Canadian Academies is set to release its review on shale gas, conducted at the request of the Minister of Environment, on May 1. The action will highlight the Harper government’s failure to address water, climate and public safety concerns, and the demands of constituents to their Members of Parliament to ban fracking.

WHEN: Thursday, May 1 at 10:30 a.m. (creative action) and 11:00 a.m. (petition delivery with Members of Parliament)

WHERE: Parliament Hill, Ottawa

WHO: The Council of Canadians
