WHAT: Canada’s leading water expert Maude Barlow will be in Midhurst on Monday, as part of a 14-city coast-to-coast tour to launch her new book Boiling Point: Government Neglect, Corporate Abuse, and Canada’s Water Crisis (ECW Press, September 2016). Boiling Point is a timely and insightful guide for elected officials, environmental organizations and residents seeking to protect freshwater in Canada and in Indigenous communities. The Midhurst book launch is hosted by the Simcoe County Greenbelt Coalition.
WHO: The book launch will feature Maude Barlow, best-selling author and activist, for a discussion of Canada’s water crisis and book signing.

WHY: The water crisis is front and centre in Midhurst, with the severe drought throughout the region this summer, which has led to local water restrictions, beach advisories and poorer water quality. The Ontario government has also invited the public to provide feedback on its water takings permit by December 31. The Trudeau government is reviewing environmental and freshwater protections gutted by the former Harper government. The federal government began public consultations about environmental assessment processes in 19 cities on September 19 – the same day that Barlow’s new book was released.
