As the oil and gas industry gathers in Saint John for the Atlantic Energy Summit, a press conference will highlight the counter-summit taking place to challenge the agenda and present a vision for a sustainable Atlantic energy future.
WHAT: Press conference to challenge the Atlantic Energy Summit and highlight the counter-conference, Energy for Everyone: A summit beyond pipelines and shale gas, taking place October 2-4.
WHEN: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 3, 2013
WHERE: Saint John Arts Centre, Saint John, New Brunswick. ** The original venue for the press conference has been changed from the Delta Brunswick hotel due to “security concerns”.
WHO: Speakers will include Maude Barlow, National Chairperson of the Council of Canadians; Chief Hugh Akagi of the Passamaquoddy Tribe; and Catherine Abreu, Regional Coordinator with the Atlantic Canada Sustainable Energy Coalition.
Energy for Everyone: A summit beyond pipelines and shale gas will include a public forum on the growing opposition to shale gas and the Energy East pipeline, featuring Maude Barlow, National Chairperson of the Council of Canadians. A protest at the site of the Atlantic Energy Summit during Premier David Alward’s keynote address will also take place.
