Trade justice movement challenging TPP at “consultations” in Charlottetown today

WHAT: Trade Justice PEI is challenging the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) at the local Standing Committee on International Trade hearing today. The Council of Canadians is a member organization of Trade Justice PEI and is available for comment on the controversial corporate rights pact.

WHO: Rosalind Waters and Ron Kelly, Trade Justice PEI

WHEN: 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 27, 2016.

WHERE: Confederation Centre of the Arts, Memorial Hall, 145 Richmond Street, Charlottetown, P.E.I.

WHY: “As the Parliamentary committee moves through the country, more and more people are discovering what Nobel Economist Joseph Stiglitz calls the ‘worst trade deal ever’. In fact, all U.S. presidential candidates are opposing the TPP,” says says Sujata Dey, Trade Campaigner with the Council of Canadians. “We don’t want this deal which would destroy 58,000 jobs, give more rights to corporations, and put our environment and health at risk.”
