Round up from Shout Out for Global Justice live streamed events across Canada

In addition to the sold out seats at Massey Hall on June 25 for the Shout Out for Global Justice! people gathered in 16 communities across Canada and at the US Social Forum to watch the event locally. From Duncan BC to St. John’s NLD positive reports started coming in even as speakers were addressing the crowd and a ’round up’ from coast to coast is below. To see a photo stream of the event, pre-event interviews with the speakers and a link to the full screening at rabble.ca, click here. Our new friends at Las Perlas Del Mar have re-cut a slightly shorter version of new footage from the event. FROM THE EAST …It was an amazing event. We had a small but enthusiastic crowd in Mahone Bay, NS… The technology piece worked flawlessly; this prompted us to discuss the possibility of doing something like this again. And we were all glad to be watching it together rather than at home or later on podcast. Cheers, Marion, Council of Canadians South Shore chapter … KUDOS to you and all involved, by the way. The group in Wolfville @the Al Whittle Theatre (some 65 or 70 people, perhaps more through the night) clapped, cheered and talked to the speakers on the screen, just as those folks in the hall were doing. Thanks for the Livestreaming; good idea! Marke Slipp, Council of Canadians Annapolis Valley chapter

… everything worked fine technically, and the people who were there were really enthused, clapping loudly when the people in Massey Hall did, and they contributed $290 to our ‘free will offering’, almost enough to cover our cost for renting the space, so we only had to take about $35 out of our CoC account. Michaele Kustudic, Council of Canadians, Annapolis Valley chapter We did manage to make the connection and see the livestreaming of the beginning of the Shout Out! Unfortunately because of the time difference and the fact that we had to vacate the venue before 10 pm we only got to see the first few speakers. This has whetted our appetite to see more and we’re trying to arrange a showing of the whole event sometime in the future. Mike Manning, Council of Canadians, St John’s chapter We had a great Shout Out in Moncton and combined it with our AGM. Among the 8 of us present around the table were a university professor, two labour activists, an aboriginal leader, a young entrepreneur, and several antipoverty activists. We started at 7 PM and told our stories until 8 PM. The PSAC regional office had lent us a projector, so we were able to watch the proceedings on the big screen. We clapped and cheered the speakers like we were there! It was a moving and wonderful experience. Philip Lillies, Council of Canadians, Moncton chapter Our chapter held its AGM before the Shout Out! We brought food and drink to share with everyone who attended the event. It was held in the library of the Dalbrae Academy in Mabou, a new venue for us, and it was great. Huge screen, comfy chairs, great atmosphere. The livestream went on without a hitch –kudos to our techie Coralie and to the folks at rabble. We got great feedback; everyone was blown away by the speakers. It was definitely the feel-good event of the year for our chapter. Anne Lévesque, Council of Canadians, Inverness County chapter FROM THE CENTRE We had 21 people out to see the live-streaming of Shout Out in Brockville. The speakers were great. We had some trouble with the sound for the first 3 and got kicked out of the building before Maude spoke, but it was very positively received. Jim Riesberry, Council of Canadians, Brockville chapter Five members of Peel Chapter drove in from Brampton to attend the Shout Out at Massey Hall, a fantastic evening! Rosemary Keenan, Council of Canadians, Peel County chapter FROM THE PRAIRIES The Shout Out for Global Justice June 25, 2010 was such a giant success!… As a sign of how important this was to us here in little old Red Deer, here’s a story. Maybe you’ve been in a movie theater when the audience applauds the screen. It is a peculiar moment, but the sincere appreciation of the fine effort seen on screen elicits clapping for the images. Well, that happened at the Red Deer Shout Out showing. Many times as speakers made points or drew out directions and trends, the feeling was so intense we clapped – and yelled, and laughed, and waved our arms at and with the people on the screen. It was so great!! When else would we get to see such a panoply of movement giants here in red Deer? Ken Collier, Council of Canadians, Red Deer chapter The Regina Chapter set up a live webcast of the Shout Out for Global Justice at the University of Regina in cooperation with our Regina Public Interest Research Group (RPIRG). We got about a dozen out for the event. Everyone had a great time and learned a lot from the very wide and diverse set of speakers at Massey Hall. Clapping of hands were common throughout the night. Jim Elliott, Council of Canadians, Regina chapter It was a small but boisterous crowd. Live streaming worked very well. We went to a local establishment after and had a great discussion on the information imparted by the wonderful speakers. It put things into perspective as we watched the march the next day and rationalized the dissent and sensationalized coverage by our incompetent corporate media. Mel Teghtmeyer, Council of Canadians, Calgary chapter FROM THE WEST We had a small but enthusiastic audience of about 20+ people here in Duncan, BC. The time difference was a problem for us… Technically, it went quite well, after we figured out how to get the sound to work! The people who were there were very fired up by the speakers, and stayed for all of them. Nancy, Council of Canadians, Duncan chapter We watched the 3-hr event live in Whistler and other members watched it online through Rabble from their homes. We had no technical glitches and the quality of the streaming was great. The caliber of speakers was amazing also. Our chapter was thinking that in future, we could even charge the chapters a nominal fee to watch events like this one to help with the costs of renting venues such as Massey Hall. Glad to hear it was a sold-out event. Pina Belperio, Council of Canadians, Whistler chapter
