Growing opposition to the so-called “Fair” Elections Act is about to land on the doorsteps of Conservative riding offices from coast to coast.
The Canadian Federation of Students, the Council of Canadians, and LeadNow.ca are joining forces to organize Let People Vote! on Tuesday, March 25, a National Day of Action to stop the Unfair Elections Act.
The organizations have collected a combined 80,000 signatures on petitions rejecting Bill C-23 and calling for real fair elections. Local actions to deliver the petitions will take place at primarily Conservative MP offices in an effort to stop the government’s plan to make US-style voter suppression a part of Canadian law.
Dozens of actions are currently planned for the Day of Action in cities across the country, including Victoria, Vancouver, Port Moody, Calgary, Alliston, Toronto, Orangeville, Ottawa, Halifax and more. All events are happening at 12:00 p.m. local time on Tuesday, March 25.
A recent poll shows that a majority of Canadians oppose the provisions in the Unfair Elections Act that would eliminate the voucher system, prevent Elections Canada from publicly reporting on election fraud, and cancel Elections Canada’s research and public education programs.
