THE CANADA WE WANT

Across Canada, people struggle with everyday failures of our economic system –
the cost of groceries and housing; lack of access to health services; insecurity instead of well-being; and deepening inequality. Political movements fueled by billionaires and disinformation are dividing us, while conservative politicians hope to ride this wave of anger and anxiety to power. Donald Trump’s presidency means a world gripped by wrath and division. Canadians need to stand against Trump’s bullying and demand a future where all are respected.

RAISE OUR VOICES
It’s time for Canadians to raise our voices and organize for the future we want. People stepped up in the past to create movements that won crucial public programs that make a difference to our lives – health care, affordable housing, a strong social safety net and measures to tackle inequality. Grassroots organizing put the public interest ahead of private profit. We can build those kinds of movements again.
Canada’s business elites are using the Trump threat to push for even more privilege. Profits have never been higher, but they want to cut corporate taxes, cut social services, weaken environmental standards, and align with the U.S. economy. Instead, we need to defend the public good and demand action that will improve our lives and strengthen our communities. Let’s take on that challenge!

MAKE LIFE MORE AFFORDABLE
✓GOOD JOBS FOR ALL
Our economy needs to provide good jobs with decent wages and benefits that keep up with the cost of living. There should be no business models based on poverty wages – respect, dignity and workplace rights are owed to everyone who works in Canada.
✓DECENT HOUSING FOR ALL
The housing market has failed. Instead of subsidizing wealthy landlords and developers, governments should recreate programs to build non-market homes in every community. Rent and renoviction controls are urgently needed. Public land should never be turned over to speculators.
✓GROCERIES THAT EVERYONE CAN AFFORD
We all deserve healthy, affordable food. Grocery price-gouging should be illegal, while those who grow and prepare our food should have full rights and respect for their vital work.

KEEP IT PUBLIC
✓PUBLIC HEALTH CARE FOR ALL
We all have the right to health care, a family doctor or community health team and mental health services for anyone in need. We need to secure pharmacare for all. We oppose privatization of health services, because it will always cost us more. The health care system needs to be fixed, but profit is not the cure.
✓PUBLIC SERVICES FOR EVERY COMMUNITY
Strong public services are essential to healthy communities and our shared prosperity. From education, health care and childcare to housing, social services and transit – we must defend the public services that make a difference in our lives.
✓WATER IS LIFE
The human right to water is essential. Water must be kept public and never be commodified.
✓FAIR TAXES
More tax cuts will only enrich the richest 1% while undermining our hard-won public services. Politicians who rage about public spending are serving their wealthy business donors who want to commodify and profit from every service we need. Decades of corporate tax breaks should be reversed.
SHAPE A SECURE FUTURE
✓CLIMATE ACTION NOW
Thousands of jobs can be created as we transition to a cleaner economy, but failing to act means we will pay much more later. Extreme weather and pollution threaten our communities and food supplies – we must confront the backlash politics of fossil fuel CEOs and demand solutions to the climate crisis now.
✓PEACE WITH JUSTICE
Working for peace and global cooperation is the basis of a secure future for all. Say no to Donald Trump and the corporate voices demanding a massive increase in military spending and the arms race.
✓RESPECT FOR ALL
When we overcome prejudice and intolerance, we can shape a better future together. Respecting the rights of Indigenous peoples, and welcoming those whose families have come here over generations seeking refuge and hope, are an essential part of our pathway forward.

ORGANIZE FOR DEMOCRACY
The crisis in living standards won’t be overcome by austerity or tax cuts – it can only be solved with investment, inclusion, and community. That means organizing with others in your community to challenge corporate power. It’s time to rebuild trust in each other and our society – and our capacity to work together for a better world. Let’s all step up and be part of building the Canada we want.
