The Hamilton Spectator reports, “Charity representatives, steelworkers, environmentalists and democracy advocates came together at Conservative MP David Sweet’s office Friday to protest the federal government omni-bill, C-38. …Kathie Clark, representing the Hamilton chapter of the Council of Canadians, said the Stephen Harper government is no longer practising democracy with such a jam-packed piece of legislation. ‘What they are doing is really shutting down Canadian democracy with this omnibus bill,’ said Clark. ‘It’s not a budget bill, it’s far more than that.'”

The news report continues, “Elysia Petorne, also from the Council of Canadians and the environmental group 350 Hamilton, would like ’12 hero Conservative MPs to be brave and cross the floor. We need people to wake up and realize how devastating this budget is,’ said Petorne. ‘Get active, tell people, so we get some form of democracy back.'”
